J’s Quality Courts is owned and managed by the Sowden Family and is a true “Family Business. Jordan, Juliet, Jason, and Jasmin are the J’s of J’s Quality Courts. Founded in 1999, JSQC is located in Lake Mary, Florida. Jason is the backbone of the company and has a unique “American Dream” story.
Jason was born in Bangkok, Thailand to parents who moved quite often because Jason’s father was a member of the Thai Border Police. Much of Jason’s early childhood was spent with his uncle on a very rural farm because his father traveled extensively with his work. Jason helped his uncle with the rigerous daily tasks of running a farm and raising crops. It was during this time early in his life that he realized the values of hard work, dedication, selflessness and sacrifice.
Jason’s biological parents were divorced and Jason moved to the US with his mother and sister. Shortly after, his mother remarried Ken Sowden, a Navy man. Jason and his sister were soon adopted by their new dad. As a Navy man, the family was required to move, living in Rhode Island, Bermuda and then settling in Orlando. Speaking little English made it difficult for Jason to finish high school and develop a career but having grown up in the culture he did, those values he learned on his Uncle’s farm allowed him to persist. He tried fast food and various construction jobs but was not satisfied with his new found American opportunity.
Eventually, he signed up with an employment agency which led him to McCourt North. MCN was a premier tennis and sport court company servicing Florida. Bobby and Corrie were two of their top technicians and both were sticklers for doing things right, not cutting corners and providing quality solutions. They took Jason under their wings, teaching him the tricks of the trade. They traveled throughout the state Florida and beyond.
After 5 years of training and traveling, Jason was ready to start out on his own. Along with his wife Juliet and adoptive father Ken, they started J’s Quality Courts in 1999, surfacing new and resurfacing existing courts throughout Seminole, Orange, Lake, Volusia and Brevard Counties. His surfacing talents were noticed and he quickly became a favorite “subcontractor” of many of the well-known Sports Court companies in Florida. Jason has trained many of the people who subcontract today for many of his competitors. JQC’s has worked throughout the state of Florida and has resurfaced hundreds of tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, shuffleboard courts and other hardcourt surfaces. For the past five years Jason supervised crews throughout North America, Hawaii, Panama, St. Barthelme, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahamas and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. (which required Jason to undergo a very thorough government security background check) Much of this work was high end resurfacing including new rubber surfacing solutions. Jason is grateful for the experiences he has had traveling but now is ready stay closer to home, being the best father, husband and son he can be…along with being the best hardcourt resurfacer in Central Florida.
